Nicolas Lewis
Composer, Manchester

Nicolas is a classically trained guitarist, composer, and performer. He has written music for theatre and dance productions that have toured throughout the country, performed at venues such as the Southbank Centre and the Royal Albert Hall’s Verdi room. As part of his Brazilian street music ensemble, his music has been played on local and national radio. And his electronic sound designs have been part of multi art-form exhibitions. As well as all this, he often runs community music projects with varied groups in Yorkshire and the North East.

When I first saw the call-out for composers for Streetwise Opera I was immediately intrigued. I could see the good that they are doing as an organisation and I also thought the quality of the pieces they were creating was really high, so I had to get involved. I’m a big fan of collaborative work and this looked to be a huge collaboration! I like to work with others as often as possible, I always discover new things about myself and music in the process. Using music as a channel of communication, discovery, and empowerment is what it’s all about for me. Streetwise Opera acts on these same ideas and I’m over the moon to be a part of this exciting project.
