Emily Levy
Composer, Manchester

Emily is a British singer and composer with particular interest in voice, sound design and narrative work. Recent projects include multiple commissions for BBC Radio 3 & 4, a song cycle for baritone Roderick Williams, composer in residence with Streetwise Opera, and choral works for choirs and vocal ensembles. Composition projects with young people include pieces for Snape Maltings, Serious Jazz and Opera North. Emily is currently developing a major new multimedia work, ‘Songs of Belonging’, supported by Sound and Music as one of their ‘New Voices’, Britten Pears Arts and Arts Council England.

I’ve had the privilege of working with Streetwise before and I always find it to be an inspiring process – I definitely learn as much from the performers as they do from me, and the atmosphere of respect and openness leads to a really great creative process that is genuinely collaborative. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the group and their sounds and ideas, and building a micro-opera together.
